# ShortieCuts > ShortieCuts is a Chrome extension that brings Microsoft Office keyboard shortcuts to Google Workspace: Excel-style ALT key-tips in Google Sheets, PowerPoint-style key-tips in Google Slides and Word-style key-tips in Google Docs, plus Trace Precedents/Dependents and Goal Seek in Google Sheets. ## Key facts - What it is: a Google Chrome extension (Chrome only). Made by ShortieCuts LLC (Texas, USA). - How it works: in a Google Sheet, Slide deck or Doc, press Alt (Option on Mac). Office-style key-tips appear; type the same letters as in Excel, PowerPoint or Word. Example: Alt, H, O, I autofits column width in Google Sheets. - Coverage: 233 Excel ALT key sequences in Google Sheets; 148 PowerPoint ALT key sequences in Google Slides; 149 Word ALT key sequences in Google Docs. - Trace formulas in Google Sheets: Ctrl + [ traces precedents (selects the cells a formula refers to, including on other tabs); Ctrl + ] traces dependents (current sheet first, then all sheets); F5 opens a Traces list to jump back. On Mac, use the Control key. - Goal Seek in Google Sheets: Alt + A + W + G opens a Goal Seek dialog with Set cell, To value and By changing cell, like Excel. - New in versions 1.2.6 and 1.2.7, rolling out through the Chrome Web Store the week of 12 Oct 2026 (installs on 1.2.5 or earlier do not have them yet): Auto-Color (paid plan; Alt + M + A colors a selection's typed-in numbers blue, formulas black, and links to other tabs or files green; only the font color changes); Custom Keys (free; assign your own key sequence to any Alt key-tip command in Sheets, Slides or Docs, from Settings > Custom Keys); Chart Format Presets (paid plan; Alt + J + C + 1, 2 or 3 applies the Banker, Clean or Print style to the selected chart, and Alt + J + C + P saves a chart's formatting as a preset and applies it to any other chart). - Pricing: 14-day free trial with no credit card, then $7.99/month or $69.99/year. Team volume discounts are applied automatically at checkout. - Privacy: shortcuts run in the browser; ShortieCuts never reads or stores spreadsheet, slide or document content. It keeps only the account email (for the subscription) and counts of which ShortieCuts shortcuts are used. - Support: info@shortiecuts.com - Install: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/jbhdbmffapbbghcejohkekfecihgehlc ## What Google offers without an extension - Google Sheets, Slides and Docs have no ribbon, so Office ALT key sequences do nothing on their own. - Ctrl + / (Cmd + / on Mac) lists Google's own shortcuts; Alt + / (Option + / on Mac) opens "Search the menus". - Google Sheets: Help > Keyboard shortcuts has an "Enable compatible spreadsheet shortcuts" switch for some Excel-style Ctrl/Shift shortcuts, but not ALT sequences. - Google Sheets has no Trace Precedents/Dependents; clicking into a formula outlines same-tab references, and Find and replace with "Also search within formulas" finds cells that mention an address. - Google Sheets has no built-in Goal Seek command; Google publishes a separate Goal Seek add-on. ## Shortcut lists - [Excel shortcuts in Google Sheets (full ALT key list)](https://www.shortiecuts.com/shortcuts): all 233 sequences, grouped by Excel ribbon tab. - [PowerPoint shortcuts in Google Slides](https://www.shortiecuts.com/shortcuts/google-slides): all 148 sequences, grouped by PowerPoint ribbon tab. - [Word shortcuts in Google Docs](https://www.shortiecuts.com/shortcuts/google-docs): all 149 sequences, grouped by Word ribbon tab. ## Guides - [Trace precedents and dependents in Google Sheets](https://www.shortiecuts.com/post/shortiecuts-for-trace-formulas): Ctrl + [ and Ctrl + ], plus native workarounds. - [Alt + H + O + I in Google Sheets](https://www.shortiecuts.com/post/master-the-alt-hoi-excel-shortcut-for-google-sheets-efficiency): autofit column width the Excel way. - [Excel Shortcuts That Don't Work in Google Sheets (and How To Get Them Back)](https://www.shortiecuts.com/guides/excel-shortcuts-that-dont-work-in-google-sheets): The basic copy, paste and formatting keys carry over from Excel to Google Sheets. The keys that make an analyst fast mostly do not: the Alt ribbon, F4 repeat, Ctrl + [ tracing, Ctrl + 9 and Ctrl + 0, one-stroke freeze panes and Goal Seek. - [Goal Seek in Google Sheets for Excel Users](https://www.shortiecuts.com/guides/goal-seek-google-sheets): Google Sheets has no Goal Seek command. ShortieCuts adds one on the same Alt + A + W + G keys Excel uses, with the same three boxes, so you can backsolve a model in Sheets the way you would in Excel. - [Freeze Panes in Google Sheets for Excel Users](https://www.shortiecuts.com/guides/freeze-panes-google-sheets): Excel freezes rows and columns together from the selected cell with Alt + W + F + F. Google Sheets makes you set rows and columns separately from the View menu. ShortieCuts restores the one-stroke version. - [Paste Special in Google Sheets for Excel Users](https://www.shortiecuts.com/guides/paste-special-google-sheets): Google Sheets has a Paste special menu and two native shortcuts, but none of Excel's Alt + H + V or Alt + E + S sequences. Here is the full key map, the one shortcut that means something different, and what Sheets cannot do at all. - [F4 and Absolute References in Google Sheets](https://www.shortiecuts.com/guides/f4-absolute-reference-google-sheets): In Google Sheets, F4 cycles a reference through its dollar-sign forms while you edit a formula, just as in Excel. Excel's other F4, repeat last action, is missing natively; ShortieCuts brings it back. ## Compared with similar extensions ShortieCuts is a Chrome extension that brings Microsoft Office keyboard shortcuts to Google Sheets, Slides and Docs.
