How to Make a Google Doc Landscape

Short Answer

How do you change a document to landscape in Google Docs?

Click Format › Page orientation (or File › Page setup), choose landscape, and click OK. To turn just part of a document landscape, highlight it, right-click, and choose Change page to landscape. With the ShortieCuts extension, you can also press Alt (Option on Mac), then P O.

In ShortieCuts' key-tip menu: Layout › Orientation. On a Mac, press Option instead of Alt.

Using the Menus

  1. Click Format › Page orientation, or File › Page setup.
  2. Select landscape.
  3. Under Apply to, choose This section, This section forward or Whole document, then click OK.

For just some text or an image, highlight it, right-click, and choose Change page to landscape. Orientation isn't available in pageless documents.

Google's keyboard shortcut list for Google Docs has no shortcut for this.

The Word-Style ALT Shortcut

  1. Add the ShortieCuts extension to Chrome and open any Google Docs document.
  2. Click into the section you want to change, or anywhere for the whole document.
  3. Press Alt (or Option on Mac). Word-style key-tips appear.
  4. Press P, then O. ShortieCuts runs “Orientation”.

When the ALT route helps: Orientation is Alt, P, O on Word's Layout tab, and ShortieCuts opens Google's Page orientation with the same keys.

FAQ

Is there a keyboard shortcut to change a document to landscape in Google Docs?

Google's keyboard shortcut list for Google Docs doesn't include one. Click Format › Page orientation (or File › Page setup), choose landscape, and click OK. To turn just part of a document landscape, highlight it, right-click, and choose Change page to landscape. With the ShortieCuts extension, you can also press Alt (Option on Mac), then P, then O.

Does Alt + P + O work in Google Docs?

Not on its own. Google Docs has no ribbon key-tips, so typing Alt + P + O there won't change a document to landscape. With the ShortieCuts Chrome extension installed, press Alt (Option on Mac), then P, then O, and ShortieCuts runs its "Orientation" command.

How do I change a document to landscape in Google Docs on a Mac?

The steps above work the same way on a Mac. With ShortieCuts, press Option instead of Alt, then P, then O.

Is ShortieCuts free?

ShortieCuts has a free 14-day trial with no credit card needed. After the trial, Pro is $7.99 a month or $69.99 a year.
