Open revision history: Ctrl + Alt + Shift + H on Windows; ⌘ + Option + Shift + H on Mac. These are Google's own shortcuts and work without any extension.

Does Alt + F + I work in Google Docs?

Not on its own. Google Docs has no ribbon key-tips, so typing Alt + F + I there won't open version history. With the ShortieCuts Chrome extension installed, press Alt (Option on Mac), then F, then I, and ShortieCuts runs its "Version History" command.
